AirWatch Announces Mobile Device Management Functionality For Support of Apple's New iPhone 3GS

ATLANTA - August 5, 2009 - AirWatch, a leading provider of enterprise-wide Mobile Device Management (MDM) software, today announced its support of Apple’s iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G with the release of its iPhone-specific MDM functionality. This industry-leading functionality allows a corporate help desk to gain true, real-time visibility into all iPhones deployed across its enterprise. It also significantly improves and expands the level of support and monitoring a corporate help desk can provide today’s corporate iPhone 3GS user, while also reducing IT support costs.

Corporate adoption rates for the iPhone have increased exponentially with the release of this newest iPhone. Last month, Apple reported sales of 5.2 million iPhones in the third quarter of its 2009 fiscal year alone, representing 626 percent unit growth over the third quarter of 2008. Apple also stated that 20 percent of FORTUNE 100 companies placed orders of 10,000 units or more, while some governmental agencies ordered up to 25,000 iPhones.

With these growth rates, corporate IT departments and their help desks require an enterprise-wide, real-time mobile device management solution that can easily integrate the new iPhone 3GS into their overall fleet of mobile devices, while also providing the necessary asset tracking and monitoring required for this particular mobile device.

AirWatch’s iPhone-specific functionality meets this integration challenge by providing help desk personnel with a single, integrated, real-time view of all their cellular and WLAN devices—including the new iPhone 3GS—deployed across the entire enterprise. Via its web-based console, AirWatch lets the help desk effectively and efficiently track, monitor and manage its growing fleet of iPhones in concert with its other smart phones, mobile computers and peripherals.

Expansive, Real-time GPS Tracking and Mapping Capabilities
AirWatch provides detailed, real-time tracking capabilities for the iPhone 3GS. The solution can track the new iPhone by device status and usage, user, asset number and other key metrics. AirWatch also provides centralized, integrated GPS tracking and mapping of all iPhones in the field using location ‘breadcrumbs,’ which can also be used to show device location history. AirWatch tracks and reports on the iPhone 3GS’ GPS coordinates by either a pre-set time interval or anytime the device travels more than a configurable distance.

In addition, via an Apple-provided XML format, AirWatch can support the remote provisioning of the new iPhone’s email accounts, device passwords and policies, network and certificate configurations and more. AirWatch can push these profiles to an individual device or multiple devices, when an iPhone has a connection to a Microsoft Exchange server. With this remote provisioning, AirWatch can centralize the management of iPhone configurations for individual devices or groups of devices, increasing help desk efficiencies and reducing IT support costs. Finally, if a device is lost or stolen, AirWatch has the ability to wipe the device remotely, providing an added level of security.

“The phenomenal reach and influence of Apple’s iPhone continues with the release of the iPhone 3GS. While support challenges still exist, the significant improvements in both speed and performance make this iPhone more suitable for more enterprise-wide deployments,” says John Marshall, AirWatch president and CEO. “We are excited to extend AirWatch’s functionality to the iPhone so our customers can now easily and systematically track, manage and secure not just the new iPhones 3GS, but all mobile devices deployed across their organizations.”
