Corporate and employee-liable iOS 5 devices securely deployed, managed and tracked

ATLANTA – October 13, 2011 – AirWatch, the global leader and innovator in mobile security, mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM), today announced that its latest software version includes secure, comprehensive mobile device management capabilities for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices using iOS 5, and is available through three scalable and flexible deployment options – Software as a Service (SaaS), appliance or on premise behind a corporate firewall. The AirWatch MDM Agent App for iOS will also be updated as part of the company’s latest software version.

iOS 5 includes new MDM features that introduce “Managed Applications.” Managed Applications can be installed or removed on iOS devices using the Apple Push Notification Service protocol. In addition, both internal applications and public applications can be installed and removed using MDM. iOS 5 also includes integrated management of purchased applications, to allow the distribution of Apple’s Volume Purchase Program (VPP) redemption codes via MDM. iOS 5 also provides new features that enhance security capabilities, including encrypted email support via S/MIME, as well as Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) email and iCloud restrictions. iOS 5 is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and the new 4S, iPod touch third and fourth generation, iPad and iPad 2.

Application Management
AirWatch’s MDM functionality, leveraging iOS 5 capabilities, enables enterprises to install and remove internal and public iTunes applications, over-the-air and track and manage application deployments. Coupled with iOS 5, AirWatch further supports application management and enables IT to:

  Install authorized applications automatically during device activation and enrollment
  Allow users to install applications on demand via MDM from the AirWatch App Catalog
  Remove managed applications on demand or automatically when the device is non-compliant or during an enterprise wipe
  Distribute redemption codes purchased from Apple’s VPP
  Track application deployments through the AirWatch management console to ensure compliance with corporate policies

iCloud
iOS 5 includes features that allow device back-up, document synchronization and photo stream to the iCloud. With AirWatch MDM, enterprises can define, allow or disallow document synchronize and enable or disable photo streams.

Security and Privacy
iOS 5 contains additional email security settings. Through AirWatch MDM, IT managers can encrypt email messages through S/MIME and also segregate and prevent corporate email from being transferred into other accounts or third party applications.

With iOS 5, the proxy settings for a Wi-Fi network are now configurable through MDM. Proxy settings allow IT managers to securely manage how devices are allowed to connect to the Internet. AirWatch enables IT to define the Wi-Fi proxy settings and provision the settings down to the device.

iOS 5 increases device and user security by enabling AirWatch MDM to prevent users from accepting untrusted SSL certificates. iOS 5 also provides the ability for AirWatch MDM to force users to enter passwords for iTunes and App Store purchases.
