AirWatch Receives STIG-Approval to Operate on US Department of Defense Networks from Defense Information Systems Agency
AirWatch is one of only two mobile device management providers to be officially STIG-Approved
ATLANTA – May 1, 2014 – AirWatch® by VMware, the leading enterprise mobility management (EMM) provider, announced today that the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Field Security Operations (FSO) has released the AirWatch MDM Software 6.5 Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) Version 1 for immediate use.
The certification validates that AirWatch, one of only two STIG-approved mobile device management (MDM) providers, meets the security restrictions required for installment on Department of Defense (DoD) networks. STIG-approval demonstrates that AirWatch provides government customers with solutions that follow mobile code risk categories and usage guides. These standards confirm AirWatch implementation is consistent with DoD cybersecurity policies, standards, architectures, security controls and validation procedures.
“STIG approval from the DISA FSO enables government organizations running on DoD networks to leverage our comprehensive platform with military-grade security for their next generation of mobile initiatives,” said John Marshall, senior vice president and general manager, AirWatch by VMware. “With the approval of our STIG, DoD agencies have clear documentation to implement a broader selection of mobile devices and management software.”
The certification process stipulated that AirWatch MDM software met all 294 NIST SP 800-53 requirements, as listed in the DISA MDM Security Requirements Guide (SRG), and a DISA FSO team conducted a thorough, third-party validation and editing process prior to awarding AirWatch STIG-approval. Apple iOS7 and Samsung SAFE devices also running Knox are approved for use with the AirWatch MDM Software 6.5 STIG.
