Unified Laptop Management

Laptops have become an integral part of how people work, allowing users access to corporate content from anywhere. Traditional laptop management consisted of domain-joined management, leading to fragmentation and differences in administration for different laptop platforms.

Emerging new use cases such as bring your own laptop have also expanded the role of laptop management in the enterprise. The combination of multiple operating systems, management solutions and other mobile devices entering the enterprise has led to additional challenges for IT in ensuring these devices remain secure and monitored.

VMware AirWatch® Laptop Management enables you to manage Chromebooks, Mac OS and Windows laptops alongside your smartphones and tablets in a single console.

Configuration Management

AirWatch configuration eliminates the need for laptop imaging and provides a seamless out-of-the-box experience for employees. Manage configurations based on dynamic smart groups, which consider device information and user attributes, and update automatically as those change. Automatically connect end users to corporate resources such as Wi-Fi and VPN, and ensure secure connectivity to backend systems with advanced options for certificate authentication and per-app VPN.

Configure Exchange Web Services on laptops and automatically configure Outlook accounts. Leverage custom profile configurations to deploy managed preferences. The AirWatch self-service portal enables end users to customize their own laptop configuration by installing the enterprise apps and content they want. Laptop configurations deployed through AirWatch profiles can be setup and updated based on your requirements, and include advanced settings for on-demand or time-based scheduling, and custom branding options.

Software Distribution

AirWatch allows enterprises to automatically install, update and remove software packages, and also provide scripting and file management tools. Create an automated workflow for software, applications, files, scripts and commands to install on laptops, and configure installation during enrollment, on-demand or at a pre-defined time. With AirWatch, you can also set the package to install based on conditions, including network status or defined schedules, and deploy software updates automatically and notify the user when updates occur. Utilizing relay servers, distribute software and packages from a local network rather than reaching back to an AirWatch server. Once deployed, view a log of successful installations and executions in the admin console.

Upload and deploy enterprise applications to laptops with defined app descriptions, images and categories for display in VMware AirWatch® Catalog. Distribute applications using dynamic smart groups, and remove applications if a user un-enrolls their device. For Macs, integrate with the Apple Volume Purchase Program for managed app distribution.

Asset Tracking

The admin console is a single pane of glass to remotely monitor and manage all devices connected to your enterprise. Because AirWatch is multitenant, you can manage devices across geographies, business units or other groupings in a single console. Define administrators and delegate management with role-based access controls.

In the admin console, view a complete inventory of all connected laptops in real-time through interactive dashboards. Monitor detailed device information including computer name, UDID, serial number, GPS location, OS version, physical memory, battery status, MAC addresses, installed profiles and packages, and more. Also view information about the end user such as username, device ownership, Terms of Use acceptance, email address, phone number and department.

AirWatch maintains a record of both device and console events for system monitoring, and enables you to view logs in the console or export them as reports. Extensive reporting capabilities, provide you with actionable, result-driven analytics about your deployment. Custom reports and more than 80 report templates are available, and all can be sent and exported on a defined schedule or recurring basis. For Macs, integrate with AppleCare to request details like warranty status, purchase country and purchase date.

Remote Assistance

Provide support to your end users with remote assistance and troubleshooting. Send end users a push notification or lock the screen remotely. To gather information on a device, perform a device query to collect the latest profile list, device info, installed applications and certificates. To assist with troubleshooting, remotely access file system logs and configuration files for diagnosing an issue. Remote view commands enable IT administrators to request a user to share a device screen. If a device is compromised, perform a remote device lock that only an administrator can unlock, or perform enterprise wipe or full device wipe.

Endpoint Protection

Ensure laptops remain secure in your environment with a multilayer approach to endpoint protection. Require end users to set a device passcode and configure certificate authentication. Configure restrictions to prevent user actions on the device, including access to applications, system preferences, app stores and device sharing. Ensure devices are protected against malicious attacks with automatic configuration of antivirus and malware prevention software. Full disk encryption ensures your corporate data is secure. The AirWatch compliance engine monitors your device fleet for non-compliance. Build policies and specify the actions and escalations to take when a violation is detected. In the event that a device is compromised, perform a device or enterprise wipe to protect corporate data.

User Enablement

Streamlined Enrollment

Enable end users to enroll their own laptop through the VMware AirWatch® Agent by simply entering their corporate email address when prompted. AirWatch immediately recognizes the domain and will authenticate the user with their corporate credentials. Upon enrollment, laptops are automatically configured with applications and software to get users up and running with the corporate resources they need. If you allow bring your own laptop (BYOL), ensure end user privacy is protected by managing only corporate data — not the entire device —and not collecting any personal information. Allow users to share devices with multiuser support.

AirWatch Apps

AirWatch has developed several applications to enhance productivity and enablement across laptops. From the AirWatch Agent, users can view messages from administrators and check their compliance status. In AirWatch Catalog, users can view, browse, search for and install public, internal, recommended and web applications. The web-based catalog is unified across device types, making it easy for users to get the apps they need on all of their devices.

VMware AirWatch® Inbox and VMware AirWatch® Browser provide secure access to corporate email and intranet sites. AirWatch Inbox is a secure email container providing complete separation of enterprise and personal data, preserving employee privacy and protecting corporate data. With AirWatch Browser, your users won’t have to remember URLs with pre-configured bookmarks and tunneling to intranet sites.

Secure Content Collaboration

To enable secure content collaboration, users can share content through personal folders in the self-service portal. These folders are synched and can be accessed through the VMware AirWatch® Content Locker application on the user’s smartphone or tablet. The desktop client, VMware AirWatch® Content Locker Sync, allows users to drag and drop files directly from their laptop into the application, ensuring they have the most up-to-date version of content on all their devices. When sending an email from Outlook, users can also pull attachments directly from AirWatch Content Locker through the Outlook plug-in.

End User Self-Service

Users can resolve common laptop issues through the AirWatch self-service portal, reducing the burden on IT. Users can view details of all their enrolled devices, such as encryption status, installed profiles and apps, and compliance status. If there is an issue with compliance, AirWatch will direct the user how to correct the issue, without involving IT. Because the self-service portal is browser-based, users can access this information, as well as send commands to devices such as clear passcode and wipe a device, even if there laptop is out of reach. Finally, if IT assistance is needed, end users can contact support directly from the self-service portal.
